Maryhill Finals
There was some controversy surrounding the final heat of last week’s Maryhill Festival of Speed. Ramon Konigshausen, Zen Shikaze, Martin Siegrist, and Tim Del Rosario-Rojas came into the last left sweeper before the finish line in a tight pack, with Ramon in the lead. Martin went for an inside pass and put his hands on Zen’s hips, at which point Zen dropped a hand and slid out into the haybales. Ramon finished first, followed by Martin, Tim, Billy Bones, Graham Buksa, and Zen in last. The IGSA rulebook (PDF link) was consulted and Martin was disqualified for “violating the passing protocol.”
(Warning: personal opinion ahead) I’ve seen some dirty racing, and this incident was anything but. Martin didn’t stiff-arm Zen or push him outside to make the pass, he just touched the guy to let him know he was there and avoid rubbing wheels. It’s unfortunate that Zen slid out but, as they say in Canada, “that’s racing.” Martin may not have been the crowd favorite last Sunday, but he deserved second. – Max

Raw Run: Marycopter
Congratulation to Ramon Konigshausen on wining the first World Cup of 2011. While this run is from the past spring freeride, this bird’s eye view show the timeless curves of Mary. It’s easy to see why we keep coming back for more. If you missed the Spring Maryhill Freeride Video, be sure to check it out.
IGSA, Goldendale, WA, USA- “Ramon Konigshausen earned his first ever IGSA World Cup victory today at the Abec 11 Maryhill Festival of Speed. The tough final round that featured a controversial last corner crash involving Zen Shikaze and three-time World Champion Martin Siegrist. After more than 30 minutes of deliberation by the IGSA officials who viewed numerous photos and videos of the crash, it was determined that Siegrist caused the incident that sent Shikaze into the straw bales. Shikaze had been running in second place at the time.
The IGSA rule book states that it is the responsibility of the overtaking rider to avoid the lead rider. After finishing in second position, Siegrist was disqualified and placed last (6th) in the heat. Tim Del Rosario-Rojas was moved up to second and Billy Meiners to third. Graham Buksa was scored in fourth and Shikaze in fifth.”

Facetime with Martin Siegrist
The SkateHouse was stoked to have the 2004, 2006, and 2007 Downhill Skateboarding World Champion Martin Siegrist as a guest. At races he is a fierce and determined competitor, but outside the race scene he is a fun, laid back, easygoing guy.
Ever wonder what happened at Maryhill 2007 between K-Rimes and Martin that lead to a punch? Watch to find out.
Martin is currently working and exploring hills in Malaysia, looks like he is finding some good runs! Be sure to check out his website and writeup on his trip from SkateHouse LA to Vancouver for the Drop premier.
