IGSA Padova: Finals

Teolo, Italy - James Kelly capped off a strong weekend at the Padova Grand Prix by winning his first IGSA World Cup race.  Kelly who hails from Petaluma, California, USA lined up in the final against number one qualifier Ramon Konigshausen, Douglas Silva and Luke Melo.  Kelly is known as one of the most talented longboarders on the planet but until today a World Cup victory had eluded him. Earlier this year he said the focus of his year would be on racing.  That focus appears to have paid off in a big way.  Melo earned his first ever World Cup podium by finishing second.  It was a breakthrough result for the skater who hails from the Toronto, Canada area.  Douglas Silva finished in third giving him his third World Cup podium finish this year.” - IGSA

2nd - Luke Melo (CAN)

Kozakov Challenge 2012 – Madrid Edition

Team Madrid headed out to the Czech Republic to hit the Kozakov Challenge. There was cheap beer and good food at the hilltop campsite and a fast, narrow, technical track to race; so of course we had a great time.

11 Questions with P-Swiss and the Final Greener Pastures Episode

A skate trip with friends always leads to an exciting adventure. The terrain and people you encounter along the way can shape your outlook on a variety of things from skateboarding to eating habits to religious views. While you may have a plan for the trip, falling behind schedule and road bumps are things that you learn to accept and deal with. As you power through the rough patches, you learn new skills and strengthen relationships. The Greener Pastures Series brings the skate community along for the trip by documenting their travels of a van full of skaters. Now releasing the final episode of Greener Pastures, we sat down with trip creator and friend Patrick Switzer and asked a few quick question to get some more insight on the trip. If you haven’t seen the SHM Raw Run with P-Swiss back in June 2010 be sure to check it out. But for now enjoy GP 5 and a few words with Pat.

SHM 1: In 10 words describe Greener Pastures? Epic, Exhausting, Laughs, Road-rash, Heli-cam, 4-cam’s-rolling-at-once, rain, Greener-Heelsides, Czech-Tallboys, Swangry (Swiss-Angry)

Greener Pastures Episode 4: Landscape

Skateboarding in Switzerland is undoubtedly one of the most incredible ways to enjoy perfect conditions in such an impressive environment. When the riders became comfortable with their sometimes testing, yet blissful situation the true personalities of their character and skating style were revealed.

The astonishing connection with environment in the Alps showed just how rapid, and unexpectedly powerful storms can be. After being trapped by rain at one location for two days, we changed plans and ventured to Swiss wine country. This location became one of the best days of filming & skating on the trip.

There is nothing like a phenomenal landscape view that takes your breath away for kilometres on end while riding a mountain pass at +80km/hr. When you catch yourself standing up, jaw dropped gawking at the view of where you are, the tension is removed, spirits are elevated, and a privileged smile raises.

Thanks to the rad crew, South African, Canadian, Swiss who joined us on our last free-ride filming day.

The final episode of the series moves to the Czech Republic for Kozakov Challenge, the first European IGSA World Cup race of the season.

EP5: Racing will be released January 10th.

Producer: Patrick Switzer
Director: Vit Hasek, 3Heads Production

Greener Pastures EP3 – Freeride

In the search to find the most challenging roads in Switzerland, EP3 highlights the supreme variety found, but on one hill. Oh yeah, and a gondola to the top!

While free riding, a multitude of things can capture your focus, i.e., position of other riders, rough pavement, vehicles, guard rails, debris, what’s for lunch, etc.
Focus and comfort in ones riding comes when these thoughts are subdued, when one finds their ‘flow’.

In EP3 the riders talk about their experiences with accidents and injuries. The message is simple. Being attune to the dangers involved in a situation will lower the risk. Riders sacrifice so much for a lifestyle which is important to them. As Samy Cantieni states “I would never trade anything for all I have lived through, thanks to skateboarding.”

By this point the Greener Pastures crew had become more comfortable riding close together, with the European style of road construction, the pavement and what we as a group felt this project represents.

Greener Pastures EP1: Travelling

“Downhill skateboarding gives us the opportunity to search skate locations in some of the most unique places in the world. The small country of Switzerland offers countless diverse challenges within a relatively short drive. During the filming of Greener Pastures we covered one thousand kilometres traveling to each of the ten locations over thirteen days before making our way to Kozakov the first European IGSA World Cup race in Czech Republic.”

SK8Trip to Maryhill with ABEC 11

“The ABEC 11 Maryhill Festival of Speed is one of the premiere downhill skateboarding and street luge events in the world. Top racers from around the world converge on the Maryhill Loops Road to compete in the first world cup event on the IGSA tour.

This year GRN TM riders came from all over the world to participate. A bunch of skaters piled into the Sk8Trip Bluebird bus at our headquarters in Huntington Beach and others were picked up in San Francisco and Portland along the way. This video captures the skate trip with their traveling highlights and experiences.

ABEC 11 has roots in downhill skateboarding and we continue to provide strong support with all forms of racing. The video focuses on the GRN TM experience but every skater comes away with his own unique and exciting experience at Maryhill. We expect to see you there in 2012! “
